Laurie Weinberg passed away peacefully surrounded by family at 12:25 a.m.
Wednesday, April 27 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Laurie was born July 28, 1957 in St. Paul, where she was adopted by Virgil & Neva (Weigand) Herold. She grew up in Proctor, Minn., where she graduated from high school. She met and married Eric Weinberg and they had two children: Jamey and Meghan. They later divorced and she raised her children in rural River Falls.
She was immensely proud of them.
Laurie was also a quiet pillar in the community, though she never wanted credit or to be in the limelight. She was an original volunteer for Turningpoint for Victims of Sexual and Domestic Violence in River Falls where she helped untold numbers of women. She marched on Washington in support of survivors of domestic violence. She also helped found Second Chances Thrift Store, __________________________ viding programming and resources for survivors of domestic and sexual violence to rebuild their lives.
Laurie was a creator of the Hunger Prevention Council of Pierce County, which helps address food insecurity and coordinates distribution of food to all Pierce County food pantries. She found joy in helping others and would give you the shirt off her back. She helped people in any way she could.
For the past 14 years, she _____________________________ store in Ellsworth, called Tried & True. She will forever be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit, quiet strength, willingness to help others and devotion to her children and grandchildren.
Laurie is survived by her loving partner, Steve Schutz, of River Falls; son Jamey (Jody) Weinberg, of __________ _______ _________ Meghan (Raymond Ormsby) Weinberg, of Seattle; grandchildren Ethan Ormsby, Monroe Ormsby, Raymond Ormsby Jr., Kaylie Ormsby, Vincent Wallman and Amanda Wallman; her sister Lisa (John) Bodell, of Hermantown, Minn.; nephew Chris (Alisa) Bodell, their children Jonny and Hailey; niece Sara (Bret) Hinnenkamp; and sisters, Angela Villegas of Seattle, Teresa McGinnis Bueno of Tennessee, Cathy McGinnis of California, and Mary Slaughter.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. July 24 in East End Park in Ellsworth.
Memorials are preferred.
