Jeanette Hovel 1938-2022

Jeanette Theresa Hovel age 83, of Prescott passed away peacefully on Friday, July 29, 2022 at Regina Senior Living in Hastings. She was born to Raymond and Irene (Schommer) Matzek on Aug. 5, 1938 in Red Wing, Minnesota. Jeanette graduated with the Prescott High School class of 1956.

She married the love of her life, James Martin Hovel, on Aug. 31, 1957 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Big River.

Their union blessed them with six children: Teresa, Kathy, Gary, David, Patricia, and Bill.

Jeanette worked tirelessly for everyone around her, first as the eldest daughter on the farm taking care of her siblings, then as a mother and grandmother, plus being a volunteer for numerous church activities throughout the years. She was very skilled in sewing and quilting, pouring her love into gifts for her family. Jeanette also enjoyed baking. You could always count on her offering you a cookie or two when you stopped by. Most of all, she loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jeanette’s faith was unwavering, reso- lute, and infinite. Her devo tion to her Lord and Savior has been something to behold.

Jeanette is survived by her husband of 64 years James Hovel; children: Teresa (Bill) Frey, Kathy (Tim) Yeh, Gary (Kathy) Hovel, David Hovel, Patricia (Mike) Zuehlsdorf, and Bill (Dar) Hovel; grandchildren: Erin (Jon) Newburg, Billy (Brit) Frey, Tim (Jana) Yeh, Philip Yeh, Rebecca (Todd) Mathison, Sarah (Erik) Sneltjes, Katie (Spencer) Gantz, Matt Hovel, Jessica (Weston) Parrack, Michael Hovel, Paul (Cassie) Johnson, Patrick (Anja) Johnson, Jenny (Al) Debbout, Sammi Zuehlsdorf, Rory Zuehlsdorf, Allison (Matt) Bronk, and Nick Hovel; great-grandchildren: William and James Newburg, Eli and Wyatt Frey, Ryder and Otto Yeh, Silas and Sawyer Mathison, Ethan, Isaac, Asher and Zoe Gantz, Tessa and Makayla Johnson, Owen, Sierra, and Derick Johnson, Ruby and Theo Debbout; Siblings: Ray (Janice) Matzek, Charles (Roseanne) Matzek, Norman (Mary) Matzek, David (Terri) Matzek, Bernard (Nancy) Matzek, Ron (Jane) Matzek, Theresa (Bob) Goehring, and Rita Matzek. She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Irene Matzek, brothers: Fr. Bill Matzek, John Matzek, and Jim Matzek.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church: 269 Dakota St. S, Prescott, WI 54021. A Visitation will start at 9 a.m. until the start of Mass. Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Parish Cemetery in Prescott.
