Softball
Ellsworth is out to an impressive 8-1 start, scoring double-digits in seven of them. The Panthers beat Zumbrota-Mazeppa 5-4, and St. Croix Central 13-3 and 20-7 to boast a 3-0 week. Ellsworth is slated to take on Baldwin-Woodville this week for the top spot in the Middle Border Conference.
Prescott moved to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in conference to sit a game out of the lead. The squad beat Blair-Taylor 14-2 April 14 before splitting with Somerset with a 2-0 win and 10-5 loss.
River Falls had a busy week, losing 9-0 and 11-0 to Eau Claire North before splitting matchups in Holmen over the weekend 6-3 over Holmen and losing 10-5 to Middleton. The Wildcats are 5-6 on the year with two matchups against Hudson looming.
Elmwood/Plum City and Spring Valley each took a couple tough losses on the week. EPC lost 7-2 to Mondovi and 21-4 to Colfax and is now 1-5 on the year while the Cardinals are 0-6 after a 12-0 loss to Glenwood City and a 14-1 loss to Pepin/Alma.
Baseball
Spring Valley is 4-1 on the year, pouncing for 14 runs to beat Glenwood City 14-12 in an absolute classic. At 2-0 in conference, the Cardinals trail only 4-0 Elk Mound.
The Wildcats are a perfect 5-0 on the year after scraping by with wins over Chippewa Falls 4-1 and 1-0. Pitching has been a powerhouse for River Falls thus far, allowing 11 runs over the five games.
Ellsworth is 3-5 on the year and 1-3 in conference after losing to Spooner 7-3 and splitting with Altoona in conference play with an 8-6 loss and 3-2 win.
Prescott joined the Panthers with a split, beating Somerset 10-0 at home and losing 4-2 on the road. The split brings the Cardinals to a 5-2 overall record and a 2-2 record in conference.
EPC is 2-4 after splitting two pitching duals. The Wolves lost 2-1 on a walk-off hit against Independence/Gilmanton, bouncing back to beat Colfax 1-0 in eight innings with six and two thirds shutout innings from Lucas Glaus with 16 strikeouts.
Boys Golf
Prescott won the D2 competition in Reedsburg, with Tyler Reiter winning individually, Sam Vesperman tying for third and Luke Kinneman slotting into a tie for sixth.
River Falls tied for second at a meet in Hudson on April 14 as the lone event on the week. It was a conference meet consisting of eight teams, proving the Wildcats to be in the running for a top spot in the Big Rivers.
SV/EPC finished sixth of six teams at a Dunn-St. Croix meet at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax.
Ellsworth has a busy schedule coming up with four events in eight days starting April 21.
Track
Weather got the best of many of the area’s planned track meets, but there is plenty to look out for coming up. Ellsworth and Prescott are competing in a conference event at St. Croix Central April 22. River Falls heads to Rice Lake April 24 while EPC is in Boyceville April 22 and Colfax April 24. Spring Valley heads to Clear Lake April 22.
Girls Soccer
After drawing in the two matches prior, River Falls took its first loss of the year 4-0 against D.C. Everest on Friday. The Wildcats are 2-1-2 on the year and 1-0-1 in conference.
Boys Tennis
Ellsworth tennis is 0-3 on the year after taking on some early-season competition, losing 6-0 to Altoona, 6-1 to Lake City and 5-2 to Amery. River Falls suffered the same 5-2 fate against Amery, but recovered to beat Chippewa Falls 7-0 in a conference meeting.
