Spring Valley got things cleaned up at the right time Friday, Sept. 19, beating Cadott 31-6 with two fourth quarter scores from Sam Schmitt to seal it. After an 0-2 start to the year, the Cardinals have won all three conference games. They play rival Elmwood/Plum City in Elmwood to remain in the fight for a conference title Friday at EPC’s homecoming.

Ellsworth is finding its footing with back-to-back conference wins, this time cruising by Amery 27-6 to move to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in conference. Ellsworth heads to Baldwin-Woodville to take on the conference’s lone undefeated team next.

River Falls took its first loss of the year to fall to 4-1 after losing to New Richmond 23-6. Lightning caused the game to be cancelled with 1:50 remaining in the game, with an agreement to protect the players given the circumstances. Up next is a home game against rival Hudson.

Prescott gave a scare to a competitive Osceola team, but lost 35-33 after being unable to recover their onside kick attempt late. The Cardinals are 1-4 and head to Somerset on Friday.

Elmwood/Plum City got the offense going against Turtle Lake, but could not stop the versatile quarterback play, losing 49-20. The Wolves are 1-4 on the year.

Volleyball

Spring Valley hosted Ellsworth and took care of business with a 3-0 win. Ellsworth was also no match for Baldwin-Woodville in a 3-0 loss.

EPC lost 3-0 against Clear Lake, a team that has had a lot of success over the first half of the year.

River Falls is still on a roll, picking up a nice and easy conference win over Eau Claire Memorial 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 25-18). Amelie Pankonin also reached 1,000 career kills during a quad with wins over Altoona, St. Croix Falls and Barron.

Osceola got the best of Prescott 3-0 in the Cardinals’ home opener. Conference play is getting going for each of the county’s teams, as they will fight for position as the postseason draws closer.
