Girls Golf
After a year when Hudson had River Falls’ number throughout the conference meets, the Wildcats struck back at the right time by winning the Big Rivers Conference Tournament. River Falls would win by a significant margin, finishing with a 352 score, outpacing the 367 from Hudson. Nathalie Rotsaert finished the year first team All-Big Rivers Conference and Addy Timm, Elsie Schmid and Rory Opatz made the second team.
As for the Middle Border, the conference event is Sept. 29, and Prescott and Ellsworth could wind up as the top two teams over the course of the entire conference season.
Football
Spring Valley beat EPC in Elmwood on Friday 29-14. It was a 16-14 battle in the fourth quarter, but the Cardinals got the last laugh to move to 4-2 overall and 4-0 in conference. EPC is now 1-5 overall. Spring Valley takes on a ranked Boyceville team and EPC faces Glenwood City.
River Falls also participated in rivalry week, pounding rival Hudson 44-21 to return the jug home. The Wildcats are 5-1 on the year and head to Rice Lake on Friday for another tough test.
Prescott ruined Somerset’s Homecoming, clobbering them 42-14 to get back into the win column. The Cardinals are 2-4 on the year with both wins coming in Middle Border Conference play. After playing four of five games on the road, Prescott returns home to host St. Croix Central on Friday.
Ellsworth got on the board first against an undefeated Baldwin-Woodville team; however, the rest of the game went the way of the Blackhawks in a 48-8 final. The Panthers are 3-3 and host Somerset on Friday.
Volleyball
River Falls is continuing its push toward a conference title, taking care of business against New Richmond 3-0. Their conference matchup of the week this time around comes against Hudson on Oct. 2.
EPC lost a nail-biting conference matchup against Durand-Arkansaw in five sets. Even the final set came down to the wire, dropping it 15-13. Spring Valley secured a 3-0 win over Mondovi and a 3-1 win over Chetek-Weyerhaeuser
Ellsworth got into a five-set thriller against Altoona, but the Railroaders got the best of them on Altoona’s home floor. Baldwin-Woodville took down Prescott in straight sets in Middle Border play.
Cross Country
Prescott competed in the Nightfall Classic in Marshfield where the racers ran in the dark, winning the boys race and taking second in the girls race. Kyra Dix got an individual win and Amber Van Loon, Addyson Allsop, Dawson Langer, Quinn Justen, Nolan Leask and Connor Anderson each finished in the top 10. River Falls also competed at the Nightfall Classic in a different division, getting a second-place finish from Olive Halvorson, sixth from Owen Koepke and 11th from Henry Cronk.
EPC, Ellsworth and Spring Valley competed in Durand. Freshman Mackenzie Hince took ninth, Adolfo Mendez took third, Jacob Michels took sixth and Ben Baker took eighth for Ellsworth.
Girls Tennis
Ellsworth had the perfect week, beating Osceola, Mondovi and Bloomer all 7-0. River Falls got two matches in on the week, losing 5-2 to Menomonie and 7-0 to Hudson.
Girls Swim and Dive
River Falls battled through a couple tough meets against Tartan North and Hudson. The team also raised over $1,000 in their fundraiser meet against Hudson for breast cancer awareness and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Boys Soccer
River Falls opened the week with a 3-0 conference win over Rice Lake. The Wildcats lost to Marshfield 2-0. They held onto a 0-0 draw at the half, with both teams getting solid scoring opportunities, but things changed out of the break.
