Football
No. 10 ranked River Falls beat No. 3 ranked, undefeated Rice Lake in a road matchup 40-28. The win moved River Falls to 6-1 and the Wildcats are now in a three-way tie at 4-1 atop the conference with Hudson and Rice Lake.
Prescott made it two wins in a row, beating St. Croix Central 19-14 with senior Kobe Russell scoring three total touchdowns and sealing the game with an interception on defense. Prescott is 3-4 with games against Amery and Baldwin-Woodville remaining.
Ellsworth has now won three of four after beating Somerset 29-27 at home. The 4-3 Panthers are fighting for a playoff spot, with games against Altoona and Osceola left to help get them there.
Boyceville got the best of Spring Valley in the battle for the conference’s top spot 42-7. The Bulldogs are one of the state’s best, sending the Cardinals to 4-3 overall and 4-1 in conference.
Glenwood City took down Elmwood/Plum City 31-16 to send the Wolves to 1-6 on the year with two games to play.
Volleyball
Ellsworth lost 3-0 to Osceola but had a chance to bounce back at Aquinas over the weekend. The Panthers beat Nekoosa 2-0 and Prairie du Chien 2-1, losing 2-1 to Luther, 2-0 to Aquinas and 2-0 to Florence.
EPC is stringing together some conference wins, beating Glenwood City 3-0 and Colfax 3-1.
After falling 3-1 to Colfax, Spring Valley beat Amery, Prescott and Unity at a tournament, with a loss coming against Webster.
River Falls got a rivalry win over Hudson 3-1 to improve to 26-5 on the year and 5-0 in conference. The Wildcats hold sole possession of the Big Rivers Conference lead with two conference matches left to play.
Prescott lost a conference match 3-1 to St. Croix Central and went to a tournament where they got a win over Siren 2-1.
Girls golf
The three girls golf teams each performed excellently at Regionals to advance to Sectionals. Ellsworth got the win in the team’s Division 2 Regional in Hammond, scoring a 350 to beat second place St. Croix Central’s 366. Lexi Marks tied for first at the Regional and Emma Helgeson took third.
At the Chippewa Falls Regional, River Falls took first place and Prescott was right behind in second with scores of 341 and 343. River Falls’ Nathalie Rotsaert took second with a 78 and Prescott’s Layla Salay was right behind in third place with an 80.

Cross country
Prescott took second in both the girls and boys races in Spring Valley. Top 10 finishers were Kyra Dix (first), Amber Van Loon (fourth), Addy Allsop (fifth), Dawson Langer (seventh), Quinn Justen (ninth) and Nolan Leask (10th).
Spring Valley and EPC also competed with Prescott. While EPC did not have enough runners to place as a team, the Spring Valley boys took third and the girls fifth. Bryson Hoolihan placed eighth for the Cardinals.
The Ellsworth boys picked up their first win of the season at the Altoona Invite. The Ellsworth team had four placers in Adolfo Mendez (second), Mackenzie Hince (third), Ben Baker (fourth) and Jacob Michels (seventh).
At the Hudson Invite, River Falls came away with plenty of medals. Olive Halvorson won the senior girls race and Micaiah Black won the freshman boys race.
Girls tennis
Ellsworth finished fourth in the Middle Border Conference Tournament which marked a fourth-place finish for the conference season as a whole. The team competed at Sub-Sectionals on Oct. 6 at Amery and Sectionals on Oct. 10 at Eau Claire.
River Falls’ Sub-Sectional was Oct. 6 in Eau Claire at the John and Fay Menard Center in Eau Claire, with Sectionals also being in Eau Claire.
Boys soccer
River Falls is continuing to find its footing in the back half of the season, taking care of business against Onalaska with a 5-0 win. The Wildcats lost 1-0 to Menomonie on a late goal to break the seal.
Girls Swimming and Diving
River Falls has some important conference matchups coming up including one Oct. 9 against Eau Claire North and Oct. 14 at Menomonie.
