Football
The Prescott-Ellsworth Highway 10 rivalry lived up to the hype once again, with two teams with something to prove butting heads. Prescott improved to 1-2 with a 20-10 win after Wyatt Budworth made a game-ending interception and returned it the length of the field for a touchdown when Ellsworth was in the red zone and eyeing a score of their own. Ellsworth is also 1-2 after the loss.
River Falls is a perfect 3-0 on the year, winning 48-20 over Superior at home. The Wildcats dominated a 34-0 first quarter, and the rest was history in the first Big Rivers Conference game. Running back Joseph Tarasewicz continued his tear, scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter.
Spring Valley won a defensive bout 8-6 over Clear Lake to move to 1-2 in the conference opener. The Cardinals return home to take on Turtle Lake next.
Elmwood/Plum City could not get it done on the road against Boyceville on the road, falling to 0-3 after a 53-0 loss. The team will take on a third straight road game, playing at Colfax next.
Volleyball
EPC won its home tournament that featured several area teams including Ellsworth. Prescott dropped a pair to tough teams in Baldwin-Woodville and Saint Croix Falls. Spring Valley kept busy with a quad, beating Cumberland and Elk Mound and losing to Saint Croix Central.
After clean sweeping Menomonie on the road 3-0, River Falls played in an event against some notable teams, beating Bloomington Jefferson, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton and Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda and losing to Chanhassen and Champlin Park.
Cross Country
Spring Valley, EPC and Ellsworth each competed at Saint Croix Central Saturday. Spring Valley finished second in the boys race and seventh in the girls. The boys had a balanced attack with Chase Glaus, Drake Olszewski and Bryson Hoolihan each finishing in the top 15. EPC had a handful of racers at the event, with Taylor and Tessa Asher finishing 33rd and 45th as well as Mason Hocking finishing 54th. The Ellsworth boys took fifth and girls sixth. Top finishers were Adolfo Mendez (third), Ben Baker (fifth) and Mackenzie Hince (seventh).
Girls Golf
Prescott and Ellsworth are battling for the top spot as a team in the conference. Prescott has won the first four conference events, but the Panthers have hung around this year, finishing second three times and third once. Lexi Marks of Ellsworth and Macy Reiter of Prescott are tied for second in conference individually.
River Falls finished two strokes behind Hudson for another second-place finish in the Big Rivers Conference. The Wildcats are off to a great start and are looking to make the jump to some event wins.
Girls Tennis
Ellsworth picked up a 7-0 win over Barron and lost battles to Amery, Baldwin-Woodville, Medford and Osceola, but they picked up some individual wins throughout.
River Falls dropped two matches against conference foes, losing 7-0 to Eau Claire Memorial and 6-1 against New Richmond.
Boys Soccer
River Falls dropped a pair on the week, losing 3-1 at Altoona/Fall Creek and 5-0 to Chippewa Falls. The Wildcats eye redemption with matchups against Superior and Eau Claire Memorial during the coming week.
Girls Swim and Dive
River Falls is ready to take off on their season, putting a long summer of hard work to the test at an event at Eau Claire Memorial on Thursday.
