1940-2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, David William Trebus, who left us peacefully from this world on Sept. 18, 2025, at the age of 85.

David was born on March 21, 1940, in River Falls, Wis., where he would go on to leave an indelible mark on his community. He graduated from River Falls High School in the class of 1958 and found his calling in hard work and dedication, beginning with local excavation, helping on local farms and milk hauling for his dad on the weekends. His industrious spirit led him to a 10-year stint at 3M before he became the proud owner of River Falls Transfer, a trucking business he operated for 25 years until 2012 and sold to Valley Cartage.

On April 22, 1961, he married the love of his life, Doris Kusilek, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, and together they built a beautiful family. Dave found joy in many things—traveling, classic cars, parades, dances and town festivals. Each year, he looked forward to deer hunting season and cherished his time spent mowing the lawn and enjoying coffee with his friends. He was known for his cleanliness, hard work, quick wit, and infectious sense of humor—qualities that made him a beloved figure to everyone fortunate enough to know him.

David will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Doris, and their children: Michael (Pyongson) Trebus, Steven (Mary) Trebus, Rochelle Trebus, Tami Stute, Brian Trebus, and Cheryl (Jason) Schwantz. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, including James (Stephanie) Trebus, Sean Trebus, Natasha (Marty) Herum, McKenzie Stute, Jaden, Jaren, Jordan and Jasmin Schwantz along with his cherished great-grandchildren. David is also survived by his siblings, Beverly (Mike) Moreland and Joanne Trebus, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents William (Bill) and Feryl Trebus; his beloved granddaughter, Samantha Shay Hunnicut-Trebus; and siblings, including Dorothy Trebus, Darlene Trebus, Shirley Wilbourn, and Ronald Trebus.

Friends and family were invited to celebrate David’s life during a visitation from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, 2025, at Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services (805 E. Division St., River Falls). Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2025, at St. Bridget Catholic Church (211 E. Division St., River Falls). Burial followed at St. Bridget Catholic Cemetery following service.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Adoray Hospice for their compassionate care during this time.

Arrangements are being handled by Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services, and we invite everyone who was touched by Dave’s spirit to come share their stories and remember a truly remarkable man.
