Ellsworth Chamber urges shoppers to support local businesses this holiday season

As we embrace the holiday shopping season, the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce encourages the community to recognize the impact of shopping small and local. Behind every small business are families dedicated to serving their friends and neighbors, and the revenue generated during this time of year is critical to sustaining these locally owned businesses.

“This time of year is considered ‘Small Business Season,’” said Kim Beebe, Executive Director of the Ellsworth Chamber. “When you shop small, you’re not just purchasing gifts—you’re investing in the families who make our community thrive.”

Small and locally owned businesses are the backbone of any community and a critical component of Wisconsin's economy. Wisconsin's small businesses account for over 97% of all businesses in the state, employing nearly 1 million people—49% of Wisconsin’s workforce. Small businesses reinvest in the local economy at a much higher rate than chains, with $68 of every $100 spent locally staying in the community. These dollars support local jobs and ensure small business owners can continue contributing to schools, nonprofits, and sponsorships for local events.

At the December meeting of the Ellsworth Village Board, Board President Becky Beissel presented a proclamation to the Ellsworth Chamber and its small business community. “Our small businesses are what give Ellsworth its uniqueness,” said President Beissel. “As we shop local this season, let’s remember that we are supporting families who work tirelessly to provide goods, services, and a sense of community. Together, we can ensure Ellsworth remains vibrant and strong.”

Shopping small and local isn’t just for the holidays—it’s an important investment in the heart and future of Ellsworth that we can all make year-round.
