Evelyn Mae (Thom) Tapsak, age 92 of Seattle, Wash., formerly of Prescott, died March 22, 2023 in Seattle. Evelyn was born on Jan. 30, 1931 in Prescott, the daughter of Leo and Dorothy (Dumont) Thom. She was raised in rural Prescott/River Falls where she attended River Falls High School. Shortly thereafter, she began working for Graco in Minneapolis where she would meet Andrew Tapsak. They would later marry and have a gift in the form of a daughter Jody. This union would later dissolve.
Evelyn worked as the Administrative Assistant to the Regional Director for the Federal Office of Health and Human Services in Seattle, retiring in 2001. She was an avid reader all her life and was an amazing cook. She met Bud Loomis in 1968 and for 30-plus years, they enjoyed many adventures. Amazingly, she learned to snow ski in her 40’s, went white water rafting in Idaho, cruised the Caribbean and Mexico several times, and loved to spend weekends camping. She especially loved her trips to Las Vegas in search of that elusive royal flush, usually with her beloved brother and sister-in-law, Bob & Carol Thom by her side. She was also a huge sports fan, especially when it came to her Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Mariners, attending many of the games. She had a deep faith in God and was deeply loved by everyone who knew her. She was not only an absolutely amazing mother and inspiration to Jody, but was oftentimes mother and inspiration to many others through the years as well. Her patience and love for both people and animals were unmatched. Her pets were always part of the family and she donated to many animal welfare groups, believing they needed us to be their voice.
Evelyn will forever remain in the hearts of her most loving daughter Jody; stepsons Brick Loomis (Becky) and Brian Loomis; grandkids: Bianca Tibeau (Emet), Gabriel Avalos (Amanda), Brick Loomis (Jamie), Brock Loomis, Austin Loomis, Brian Loomis Jr.; great grandchildren: Abby, Cosi, Parker, Killian, Lana, Bud; countless nephews and nieces; siblings Mary Kinneman, Bill Thom (Sharon), and Robert Thom. She is preceded in death by Bud Loomis, brothers Louis Thom, Leo (Bud) Thom, and sister Jean Herbert.
Mass of Christian Burial for Evelyn Tapsak will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 24 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prescott. Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass at the church Saturday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Humane Society of Pierce-St. Croix.
