My column will be short this week, because like many, I am feeling broken. I just have a few simple statements to make.
The death of political activist Charlie Kirk is terrible. It should not have happened. I have said prayers for his grieving loved ones.
The deaths of Minnesota State Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were terrible. They should not have happened. I prayed for their grieving loved ones.
The shootings at Annunciation School in Minneapolis were terrible. They should not have happened. I prayed for those killed and injured and their loved ones.
It doesn’t matter if someone is Republican, Democrat, or any other party, they should not be murdered because of their beliefs or because of the parties they support.
We should not be pointing fingers at the opposite party. We should not be blaming the opposite party. We should be collectively angry that senseless violence is becoming as commonplace in the United States as apple pie and baseball. Actually, more so.
My wish is that we would come together as Americans the way we did on Sept. 12, 2001, when we were all terrified of the unknown but determined to stand together, for each other, for our country.
If you find yourself compelled to share your political opinions on social media, just stop. Do you have a right to? Yes. But do you really think someone is going to have a magical epiphany by reading your Facebook post condemning “the other side?” And if you see someone’s post you don’t agree with, just don’t read it.
Americans needs to pull their heads out of you know where and start acting like Americans, not Republicans or Democrats. Do you think Jesus cares which side you’re on? Does he shun Republicans/Democrats at the Pearly Gates and let the others through? I doubt it. I’m guessing he looks at our actions rather than our voting cards.
We need to do better before it’s too late. We are regressing as a nation, not progressing
