Ground broken for new judicial facility

Posted

ELLSWORTH – On Tuesday, June 10 Pierce County held a groundbreaking event for a new Judicial Facility Addition at the Law Enforcement Center (555 W. Overlook Drive, Ellsworth).

Members of the Pierce County Board, county administration, Circuit Judge Elizabeth Rohl, staff and County partners Wold Architects and Market & Johnson, Inc. Construction were present to commemorate the occasion.

Construction activities began the first week of June with an anticipated completion date in November 2026. The building, anticipated to cost $31,391,190, will house four new courtrooms and space for the district attorney’s office, registrar and probate office, judicial chamber suite, corporation counsel, clerk of court office and more. It will also allow for inmates to be brought directly to court through a secure elevator/hallway, eliminating the need to transport them to the downtown courthouse.

Since the concept design phase presented in October 2023, the square footage of the facility has been finalized to be about 65,618, which is about 1,400 more than originally conceived. The current project cost estimate sits at $31,391,190.

Anyone who needs services at the Sheriff's Office is encouraged to call ahead for directions when practical during construction activities. For a full history on the judicial facility addition process, visit www.co.pierce.wi.us
