Letter to the editor: National Teacher Appreciation Week

To the editor,

National Teacher Appreciation Week is May 8 -12. This annual week of appreciation is an opportunity for us all to say “thanks” to our teachers (and all support staff).

Most communities recognize their local school system as the hub of their community primarily due to our schools providing so many opportunities for kids to learn and grow.

Our staff serve kids with before and after school care, teach academics with rigor and relevance, embed character learning activities; provide co-curricular and club activities, share our buildings for community use, and in general, provide a variety of learning experiences for PK-12 grade students both in, and out of the classroom.

Teachers work long hours before and after the regular school day to provide meaningful and engaging learning opportunities for the children of our community. Our staff knows the importance of keeping all kids safe while forging relationships – and then, they can teach students anything.

Our teachers care. They personalize learning experiences. They recognize different learning styles. And they continue to be lead learners themselves to constantly hone their craft. As education professionals make a difference in the lives of our community’s children every day, this week, let’s recognize their impactful work.

This week, please consider giving a “shout-out” to those who deserve a pat-on-the-back. Call, email, or write a special note to a staff member of whom you know has made a difference in your life, or that of our children.
