To the editor,
I would like to invite everyone to take 60-90 minutes out of their busy schedule once a month and go to their local municipalities' monthly meeting to learn where their local taxes are being spent.
This is the first place to learn not only what local projects are voted in but also to speak to the board about your concerns, where ordinances are voted in or not, etc. It's like a local newspaper, if you will.
You should be able to be informed about where your hard-earned tax monies are going and to whom. Transparency and credibility are what should be number one at these meetings. You should be able to know where your taxes are being spent. Bills should be read out loud, so the public should know where and to whom the board is buying items from, for what amount and for what service. It shouldn't be a secret.
I'm not accusing anyone but I don't think we should leave the barn door open either.
I believe that transparency and credibility should be the board's foremost values when engaging with the public.
