Football

It was a perfect week for the three county teams that qualified for the playoffs, with Spring Valley, Ellsworth and Prescott each winning their games.

Spring Valley is a No. 1 seed in Division 7 and showed exactly why, winning 42-7 over Whitehall. The Cardinals got down 7-0 to start the game, quickly turning things around. Spring Valley totalled 266 rushing yards by the end of the game. Next up is a home matchup against Glenwood City, who they beat 21-3 weeks ago.

Ellsworth came in as a No. 6 seed against No. 3 Mosinee and brought home a 28-21 win. The Panthers faced every possible ounce of adversity and made plays when they had to. Ellsworth now takes on Baldwin-Woodville, who beat them 32-15 Sept. 20, in Baldwin.

Prescott scored a whopping 30 first-half points to win 46-30 over Seymour. With the matchup being No. 4 seed Prescott versus a No. 5 seed, the Cardinals knew it was going to be tough, but the offense delivered. Next up is a matchup against 10-0 No. 1 seed Freedom.

Volleyball

River Falls and Prescott are moving on to Sectional matchups Thursday after winning their Regionals. River Falls is a No. 2 seed in Division 1 and had a single Regional matchup after a bye, beating Stevens Point 3-0 (25-11, 25-23, 25-22). River Falls now plays Eau Claire Memorial on Thursday who the Wildcats beat 3-0 earlier in the year.

Prescott is also headed to Sectionals as a No. 10 seed with 3-0 wins over No. 7 Elk Mound, No. 2 Marathon and No. 3 Fall Creek, all in true road matchups. Next up is a battle against No. 1 Stratford in Stratford who comes in at 30-4 Thursday.

Ellsworth did not advance to Sectionals; however, it was not for a lack of strong play as the Panthers won 3-1 over No. 9 Hayward and gave No. 1 Osceola everything they could handle in a five-set loss.

Elmwood/Plum City came in as a No. 3 seed and beat No. 6 Ladysmith before falling 3-0 to No. 2 Regis.

No. 4 Spring Valley lost 3-0 to No. 5 Clear Lake in their first playoff matchup.

Cross Country

The Prescott girls cross country squad is state bound, placing second at the Black River Falls Sectional on Friday. Prescott finished just behind West Salem by two points for first place.

Kyra Dix finished second for Prescott, Amber Van Loon eighth, Katie Huppert 17th, Addyson Allsop 18th, Kyla Gotzinger 33rd, Emma Schmitz 34th and Nora Boles 38th.

River Falls qualified three individuals in junior Olive Halvorson, senior Quin Andrews and senior Jonah Majerus. For Ellsworth, Noah Matzek qualified individually.

Boys Soccer

As a No. 4 seed in Division 2, the Wildcats had their work cut out to get to Sectionals and ended up pulling it off in dramatic fashion. River Falls took down No. 5 Wausau East 5-0 at home Tuesday and followed it up with a massive win over No. 1 New Richmond on penalty kicks after a 0-0 match.

The Wildcats had been blanked by New Richmond twice during the regular season, making the win all the more special.

The road ahead is not any easier for River Falls with No. 3 Marshfield up next Thursday in Marshfield.

Swimming and Diving

River Falls has arrived at the postseason, competing in the Big Rivers Conference meet Nov. 1-2 and Sectionals on Nov. 8-9, both in Hudson.
