Prescott went 1-1 on the week, losing 50-41 to Somerset on Dec. 3 and bouncing back to beat Northwestern 45-44 in a thriller Saturday. The Cardinals have had no shortage of tough games to start the season, now sitting at 2-3 overall and 1-1 in Middle Border play.

Ellsworth lost a conference game to Altoona 54-27 to fall to 0-2 in conference play Dec. 3. They got back in the win column with a 37-26 win over La Crosse Logan on Friday to move to 2-3 overall. They got down 18-9 at the half, but 39 free throw attempts on the game vaulted them to a win.

River Falls is still in search of their first win after an 0-6 start. They dropped a game 60-40 to Menomonie and 35-25 to Altoona on the week.

Spring Valley started Dunn-St. Croix Conference play 1-0 with a big win over Glenwood City 56-40 Thursday. Cadott got the best of the Cardinals in a non-conference game 52-38.

Elmwood/Plum City fell to 0-4 after a 64-18 loss to Mondovi and a 57-26 win over Stanley-Boyd.

Boys Basketball

Spring Valley is off to a 1-1 start, taking down Alma/Pepin 60-51 Dec. 3 and dropping one to Altoona 59-46 Saturday. The team got their early season experience and will now tackle conference play, starting with a road matchup against Glenwood City on Thursday.
EPC joined the Cardinals at 1-1 with a tough 82-63 loss Thursday to open the season against Osseo-Fairchild followed by a dominant 52-32 win over Thorp on the road Saturday. Senior Lucas Glaus has been the talk of the town, posting a career high 40 in the opener and 24 against Thorp. Glaus led the Dunn-St. Croix Conference in scoring a year ago at 20 points per game. Next up is a road game Thursday to start conference play against Mondovi.

The 1-1 club does not end there, with the Ellsworth Panthers beating Black River Falls 66-62 Dec. 3 and losing the conference opener against St. Croix Central 67-49 Friday.

Prescott bounced back from a tough 67-58 loss to Holmen with three consecutive wins, beating Hasting 83-77, Osceola 69-67 and McDonnell Central 45-43. The Cardinals have faced no shortage of close games and picked up a conference win against Osceola.

River Falls played just once in the opening week, toppling Mahtomedi 62-56 Friday with the help of 23 points from junior Brody Graetz.

Wrestling

The four county boys teams headed to the Ellsworth Invitational on Saturday, with Oliver Larson of River Falls at 126 pounds and Jacob Hutchins of River Falls at 190 pounds coming away as the two individual winners. With 12 tough teams in attendance, River Falls placed fifth, Spring Valley/Elmwood ninth, Ellsworth 11th and Prescott 12th.

River Falls started the year with a conference dual Thursday against Menomonie, coming down to the final match where a tech fall against them forced a 36-34 loss.

Prescott and Ellsworth also each competed in another event, gaining a lot of early-season experience between the two.

Hockey

The River Falls boys are 2-2 overall and 2-0 in division play, picking up a 5-2 win at Menomonie on Dec. 3 and a 5-3 win against Chippewa Falls on Thursday. After a couple tough losses to start the year, the Wildcats are starting to find their rhythm.

The St. Croix Valley Fusion did not play over the week and stand at 1-2 with the first Big Rivers Conference matchup coming Dec. 10 against Western Wisconsin.

The Wildcat boys took fourth at a Chippewa Falls Invitational on Saturday that featured eight teams. Their first home meet is a conference one, taking on Rice Lake on Thursday night.
