The Pierce County Journal appreciates the men and women who risk their lives every day to protect and serve our communities. We also want to help you get to know the men and women behind the badge in all Pierce County law enforcement agencies. Each week we will feature an officer and ask them a fun set of questions. When you see them on the street, make sure to say hi!

Meet Chief Deputy Matt Kennett of the River Falls Police Department.

  1. How long have you worked for RFPD? I started my career with the River Falls Police Department nearly 18 years ago. I have only served with River Falls.
  2. What is your job title/duties? I am the Deputy Chief of Police. There are numerous responsibilities for my position. The best summation would be that I have direct oversight of the day-to-day police department operations and personnel. I coordinate, implement, and manage various programs, as well as ensuring officers have the resources, equipment, and training to provide service to the public.
  3. Why did you become a police officer? I always knew that my place in the world was to serve. I had positive interactions with police officers when I was young and that made a big impact on me. I was considering being a teacher for a very brief time, however I viewed the variety and pace of law enforcement as a better fit.
  4. What are your favorite sports teams to root for? I will always be a St. Louis Blues fan!
  5. What is your favorite food? A bacon cheeseburger and fries. You have to eat all of the fries first though.
  6. If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? I would travel throughout Europe. I enjoy world history and learning about previous cultures and significant world events.
  7. Who is your hero and why? My grandfather. His life story is the epitome of overcoming adversity and never giving up. His work ethic, even into his 70’s and 80’s, was awe inspiring and still influences me to this day.
  8. What are some hobbies you enjoy? I enjoy running, biking, and coaching soccer.
  9. What's your favorite place in River Falls? I enjoy the quiet of the trails along the river.
  10. If you could have one superpower, what would it be? I would like to be able to time travel to see historical events and what it is like in the future.
