Not many of us have a claim to fame like being the first baby born in Hastings in 1973.
Well that first baby turns 50 this year, and it’s none other than Hastings resident and realtor, Anthony Peter Nelson.
Anthony Peter Nelson made the record books by being born on Jan. 1, 1973, at Regina Hospital at 11:02 a.m. Anthony Peter Nelson was the second son of Pete and Jo Ann. Their first son, Michael, was born 22 months earlier. Anthony weighed 6 pounds, 11-1/2 ounces and was 19 inches long when he was born.
Back in 1973, the Nelsons won $90 worth of prizes from Hastings area businesses, including a $10 gift certificate from Meyer Co., a $10 gift certificate from Goranson’s Home Furnishings, a case of baby formula from Dan’s Super Value and other prizes.
Many around Hastings simply know him as Tony Nelson, former Hastings City Councilmember. If you see him out and about, make sure to wish him a Happy 50th!
