Pierce County Sheri’s deputies arrested a Minnesota woman accused of kidnapping and fleeing with her infant son at a Hager City home last week.

Former Ellsworth Baseball Softball Association president Whitney O’Neil pleaded guilty to one count of felony theft – business setting Friday, Sept. 2 in Pierce County Circuit Court as a packed courtroom looked on.

It’s that weekend that, if you’re from Prescott, is circled on the calendar. It’s easy to remember. It’s the weekend after Labor Day. It’s been the biggest weekend of the year for 50 years now. And the 50th anniversary of Prescott Daze will not disappoint!

River Falls new Fire Chief Steven Cash was sworn in at the Aug. 23 River Falls City Council meeting before a packed house, including his wife, four children, city staff and residents.

Two Minnesota men died in a plane crash last Tuesday near Bay City, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.

Father Kevin Louis of St. Mary’s “Big River” Catholic Church has been placed on administrative leave, according to a statement from the La Crosse Diocese. Most Reverend William Patrick Callahan, the bishop of the diocese, said in a statement Aug. 30 that Louis was placed on leave for “personal reasons to allow for a time of discernment.” The leave is not related in any way to misconduct with a minor, the statement said.

At a special elector’s meeting held Aug. 30, River Falls School District residents in attendance voted unanimously to grant the district authority to execute a lease agreement for a new Renaissance Charter Academy building.

A Hager City man has been charged with two felonies stemming from an hours-long standoff with law enforcement in April on a country road in the town of Trenton.

Sept. 21, 2022

River Falls businessman Michael J. Harvey is facing multiple charges in two Wisconsin counties related to swindling customers out of money through his solar energy and thermal installation company, Able Energy Corp.

A man who had proposed to buy and remodel the former Shopko building in Ellsworth into an aquaponics facility has been charged with felonies in two states related to business theft. Bruce Phillip Carman, 64, Alma, was charged Sept. 12 with felony theft – false representation in Pierce County Circuit Court.

The first time local songstress Colleen Raye heard Adele sing on Saturday Night Live in 2008, she knew she was someone special. She immediately felt a kinship with the British singer, who although from another generation, spoke directly to her heart.

A Dakota County, Minn. judge ruled against a motion on Sept. 9 to dismiss charges that the actions of a Burnsville, Minn. woman who was racing with her brother caused the deaths of Tayler Nicole Garza of Woodbury and Dalton Lee Ford of Burnsville.
The tax rate paid by Prescott School District homeowners is expected to take a big dip this year. With equalized district value topping $1 billion for the first time, the rate paid per $1,000 of property value for the school share of the tax bill is dropping from $10.23 last year to $8.37 for the tax bills that will be mailed in December.
Anyone who has ever walked on the north sidewalk of Ellsworth’s Main Street knows the steeply slanted, cracked concrete is difficult to navigate even when it’s dry. Soon that problem will be fixed with a new sidewalk.
River Falls resident Dana Linscott has taken it upon him-self to secure a safe spot for the homeless to stay, according to his comments made at the Sept. 13 River Falls City Council meeting. He spoke to the council during public comment, saying he’s spoken to several current and past council members about helping the city’s homeless, many of which have been camping out in vehicles or tents. He described the response he’s received as “underwhelming.”
