NR co-op leaves joint venture Ellsworth, Baldwin consider consolidation By Bronwyn A. Schaefer The joint venture between three local co-ops recently lost a member.
In January 1994 the Ellsworth, Baldwin and New Richmond co-ops joined in an effort to better serve members. Last Sunday, Oct. 1, New Richmond left the venture.
Larry Dokkestul, general manager of the Ellsworth co-op, said members here should not worry about the change. “There will be no effect in Ellsworth as far as the equipment, facility and personnel are concerned,” Dokkestul said.
“I am very positive about the remaining joint venture.” Dokkestul said the Baldwin and Ellsworth co-ops will continue to explore ways to offer better service… Dzubay named publisher of Herald, RF Journal, Star-Observer (photo) Steve Dzubay, general manager of the River Falls Journal, has been named publisher of the Pierce County Herald and its two sister papers—the River Falls Journal and the Hudson Star-Observer.
Dzubay will spend the majority of his time at the Hudson Star-Observer but also will travel regularly between the Journal and Pierce County Herald.
The change was announced to employees at all three locations last week.
The promotion is the result of a decision by Jay Griggs to leave the newspaper business after 27 years and pursue a seat in the Wisconsin Senate. Griggs bought the Herald in 1978 and has been a partner and publisher of the Journal since 1984 and the Star-Observer since 1987. He is selling his stock to the parent Red Wing Publishing Co., which operates 17 newspapers Wisconsin. The Star-Observer, Journal and Herald collectively employ about 60 people.
