A bigger and better than ever Prescott Daze on tap this weekend

PRESCOTT – Prescott Daze is this weekend, and event organizers promise it’s bigger and better than ever.

Momentum has been building in the last several years, and Prescott Daze 2023 is creating a huge community buzz.

Prescott Daze Committee member Annie Valentine said that people being cooped up during the pandemic has led to an appreciation for community events.

“That first year back after it, people were so ready,” she said. “I think it really got people excited for Prescott Daze again, kind of back to the old school. It’s coming back. People get really excited for the weekend.”

And organizers are making sure there’s plenty to do.

First of all, there’s a new band Friday night after having the same band for the last three years. Its name is abbreviated as SSCB. The first, third and fourth letters stand for Some Cover Band. We’ll leave the second letter to your own research. The new band has really created a Facebook buzz for its Prescott Daze show. SSCB will play at the Prescott Area Chamber of Commerce Street Dance at Mercord Mill Park. Bar and food open and 6 p.m. with the band taking the stage at 8 p.m.

“They’re a super fun band. We’ve had more interest for this street dance than we’ve ever had,” Valentine said.

This year, the car show returns to Broad Street as a father-son duo agreed to organize the popular event. It runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Broad Street.

Downtown Prescott will be hopping with activity, as there will also be 70 vendors lining the street.

“It’s probably going to be one of our biggest vendor shows,” Valentine said.

There will be two bands playing downtown, along with a Zumba demonstration near the downtown main stage at noon.

“It’s going to be a huge day,” said Valentine.

In addition, renowned chainsaw carver Dan Geister will again be giving a demonstration.

Before the Prescott Daze Grand Parade (Sunday, 2 p.m.), there will be a vendor show in Lions Park from 10 a.m. to 2p.m., plus pony rides for the kids.

“We decided to amp up Sunday a bit,” said Valentine.

Parade grand marshal is Tom Lytle. Lytle was a volunteer firefighter for 35 years, serving as Assistant Chief and ending his years of service as Fire Chief from 20215 to 2022, when he retired.

It’s going to be a busy week of preparations, but volunteers are excited to see the community turn out this weekend.

“We’re ready,” said Valentine. “We just want everyone to love Prescott Daze as much as we do.”

A full schedule of events is inserted in this week’s edition of The Journal.
