The Prescott boys’ basketball team had a very busy week. With the regular season nearing an end and the virus postponing games earlier in the season, the Cardinals played four games during the week. On Monday, they travelled to Ellsworth to play in the Highway 10 rivalry. Prescott would then start a three-day, three game stretch on Thursday night. Amery, Somerset and Baldwin-Woodville were their opponents. If this stretch was not difficult enough, all four games were on the road.

The Cardinals started the week with a game against the Panthers. Prescott entered the game with an overall record of 7-4 and a conference record of 4-2. Ellsworth started the night with a 5-8 overall record and a 4-5 mark in the Middle Border Conference. Prescott won the first meeting 78-67, but this game was close the whole way. The teams were tied at the half, 31-31. In the second half, Prescott held off Ellsworth to win a nail bitter 69-67 and sweep the season series. Jordan Malmlov paced the Cardinals with 29 points and four steals. Dallas Wallin played another great all-around game with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks. Ben Rohl scored nine points and Teddy Huppert scored eight points. Aiden Russell chipped in six points, and Walker Lenz added three points. Philip Seifert scored two points. Justin Syverson added seven rebounds.

Prescott then travelled to Amery on Thursday night. Amery has had a difficult season, entering the game with a 2-11 overall record and a 1-10 conference record. Prescott easily beat them earlier this season at home, 79-40. The Cardinals took command of the game in the first half and took a comfortable lead into halftime 37-20. With games still to be played the next two nights, the Cardinals bench saw plenty of action in this one as 13 Prescott players scored in the game. Prescott’s bench outplayed Amery and the Cardinals again won easily, 69-41. Lenz and Hayden Pattridge lead the way with 11 points apiece. Rohl scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds. Seifert also scored nine points. Tanner Dalman scored seven points with three steals. Damion Huppert and Syverson both scored five points. Malmlov scored four points, Eric Korthage had three points, Russell and Kyle Holman scored two points apiece. Wallin had one point and four steals. Teddy Huppert did not score but had five rebounds.

Friday night, the Cardinals travelled to Somerset. Somerset was 15-7 on the season and 7-5 in the Middle Border Conference. Earlier this season, Prescott won a high scoring affair at the Nest, 81-76. This game would not be nearly as high scoring, but another close finish. Somerset led 30-27 at halftime and held on in the final seconds to defeat the Cardinals, 50-49. Malmlov led Prescott in scoring with 15 points and Wallin added 12 points. Lenz scored eight points and had five assists. Philip Seifert chipped in with six points. Rohl scored four points with seven rebounds. Pattridge had three points. Teddy Huppert scored one point.

Prescott’s third road game in three days, was at Baldwin-Woodville. This would be the first meeting between the teams this season. For the second straight night, the Cardinals would be involved in a low scoring nail bitter and come out with a loss. The Cardinals did lead 30-25 at halftime, but the three road games in three days may have caught up with them in the second half. Prescott would be outscored 32-24 in the second half to fall to Baldwin-Woodville by a 57-54 score. Malmlov again lead the team in scoring with 21 points. Rohl scored 17 points. Siefert had seven points. Wallin added five points. Syverson scored three points. Pattridge had one point.

Prescott will again play four games in the next week. On Monday they traveled to Osceola for the last road game of the regular season. The Cheiftains are struggling and are winless in the conference. Tuesday the Cardinals are back at the Nest for a rematch against Baldwin-Woodville. Thursday, Prescott hosts conference leader St. Croix Central and will look to give them their first loss in the conference. The Cardinals finish off their regular season Saturday, February 13th at home against New Richmond.
