The National Weather Service issued yet another flood warning at 9:03 p.m. Monday, July 1 for the Mississippi and St. Croix rivers, in effect until Sunday afternoon, July 7.
According to the alert, at Red Wing, the river is expected to fall below flood stage Saturday morning at 678.5 feet. Flood stage occurs at 680.5 feet. That number was 682.5 feet as of 8:15 p.m. July 1. This crest compares to a previous crest of 682.5 feet on June 28, 1993.
“We continue our slow downwards trajectory at most locations, which will end up being delayed with additional rainfall arriving tonight and another round later this week,” the alert states. “While right now we are not expecting a return to previous crest heights, the late week system has the best chance of seeing rapid rises in some of the quicker responding basins. Overall, a half inch to one inch is expected through Tuesday, with amounts trending higher for late week.”
Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
