Adeline Ambernette Florness, age 95, passed away on Sept. 24, 2025 at Preferred Senior Living in Ellsworth, Wis., with her daughter Patty at her side. She was born on March 7, 1930, in Stockholm, Wis. to Ferdinand and Florence (Wallin) Bjurquist. She graduated from Maiden Rock High School with the class of 1947.
After graduation, Adeline attended Augsburg College for one year, and then moved to Denver, Colo., where she worked at an insurance company until the summer of 1952, when her mother called her home to help care for her father who suffered a stroke. He died a few months later on Christmas Eve at the age of 55. But out of this sad life event, Adeline met her future husband, Kenneth Florness. They were married on Jan. 16, 1954, and began their farming life together near Bay City, Wis., where they raised their family of four children.
Adeline loved farming life. She loved to do field work, particularly in springtime. She was an active member of Tabor Church and the local 4-H club. She loved music and gardens, a gift from her mother, who worked hard to ensure that all her children played piano and went to college. Adeline was proud of her 25 years she served as Isabelle Township treasurer. She loved her children and grandchildren and especially enjoyed her family’s Swedish heritage and lifelong volunteer work at the Stockholm Museum. She and Kenneth travelled several times to Norway where they connected with Ken’s Norwegian relatives. Adeline enjoyed her later travels on domestic and international trips. But her life desire was always to live independently on the farm that she and Ken shared, which she was able to do until October 2024.
Survivors include three children, Cindy Hammond, Patty Florness and Dan (Jennie) Florness and four grandchildren, Peter (Emma), David (Brittany), Daniel and Anna.
She was preceded in death by husband Kenneth, son Peter, parents, brothers Alton and Gordon and sister Joyce.
A memorial service will be held at Tabor Lutheran Church, rural Bay City, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025, visitation one hour prior to service at the church. Lunch following at American Legion Post 357 in Bay City, Wis.
