ELLSWORTH – Ellsworth Public Library invites the public to experience the world through watercolor in its newest gallery exhibit featuring artist John Grancorvitz, on display Jan. 7 through Feb. 25, 2026.
Grancorvitz’s paintings capture the quiet beauty of everyday moments—from sweeping landscapes and vibrant city scenes to intimate portraits of people and pets. An avid cyclist and hiker, he draws inspiration from the outdoors and the scenes he encounters on the trail and in daily life, translating these observations into expressive watercolor works.
A special artist reception will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, offering visitors the opportunity to meet the artist, view the exhibit, and enjoy light refreshments. Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend.
Self-taught and working primarily in watercolor since the mid-1990s, Grancorvitz’s artistic journey began with pencil drawings and scratchboard etchings before evolving into the medium that defines his work today. His subjects range widely, reflecting both his technical versatility and his curiosity about the world around him.
An award-winning artist, Grancorvitz has exhibited at venues including the Community Arts Based Gallery in River Falls and the Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson. He is a member of the American Watercolor Society and a signature member of the NorthStar Watermedia Society. In addition to exhibiting his work, he leads watercolor workshops for artists of all skill levels and accepts commissioned projects.
The exhibit is free and open to the public during regular library hours. Visitors are encouraged to stop by and discover how watercolor brings everyday scenes to life at Ellsworth Public Library.
