Among Friends, a River Falls-based respite program providing support for older people with memory loss and physical challenges and their caregivers, has been awarded grants from Bader Philanthropies and from the Pierce County Aging and Disabilities Resource Center (ADRC).
Over the next three years, these grants will help fund enhancement and expansion of Among Friends’ services and activities that build resilience in and give joy to participants and offer respite for their caregivers. These activities include staff-directed music, exercise, games, conversation, visits from companion animals, flower arranging, kite-flying, and social connection, as when Among Friends participants shared a painting project with some young people, as shown in the photo.
Founded in 1992, Bader Philanthropies has provided over $425 million in grants and program-related investments aimed at improving the quality of life for people living in rural and urban areas of Wisconsin as well as internationally. The Pierce County ADRC provides older adults and those with physical or developmental challenges with resources to enhance their independence, dignity, and security.
Among Friends is supported largely through grants and donations. The Among Friends grant-writing team of Jane Harred, Bonnie Jones Witthuhn, and Laura Zlogar is grateful for the generous support of Bader Philanthropies and Pierce County ADRC, as are Among Friends’ participants, board, staff, and volunteers.
Among Friends welcomes participants on Tuesdays at its location at 110 N. Third St. in River Falls. Anyone interested in finding out more can call 715-293-2561 or email [email protected] Submitted by Among Friends
