River Falls headed into the halftime break Friday, Oct. 10 tied with Menomonie at 14. The Wildcats must have heard a motivating halftime speech, though, bursting out of the half to a 42-14 win. River Falls enters the final week with a game against Wausau West tied for the conference’s top spot at 5-1.

Altoona stepped on the gas and did not let off against Ellsworth, beating the Panthers 42-7 in Ellsworth to send them to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in conference with the season’s final game coming against 6-2 Osceola on the road.

A late touchdown from Prescott was not enough to mount a comeback against Amery, losing 18-13 to fall to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in conference. The final game will be an important one for playoff consideration, coming at home against undefeated Baldwin-Woodville.

Spring Valley was no match for Glenwood City in a 27-7 loss. The Cardinals fell to 4-4 overall record but remain in strong conference positioning at 4-2 in third place. Their final game comes on the road against 0-8 Colfax.

Elmwood/Plum City fell to 1-7 on the year after a narrow 20-14 loss to Clear Lake. The schedule does not lighten up for the Wolves as they take on 7-1 Chetek-Weyerhaeuser.

Volleyball

The Ellsworth-Prescott rivalry saw another installment, with the Panthers going on the road to beat Prescott in straight sets (25-23, 25-18, 25-21). Prescott did beat Amery in a five-set thriller earlier in the week. Ellsworth’s other match of the week went 3-1 against St. Croix Central.
Spring Valley and EPC also took part in rivalry week, with the Cardinals winning 3-0 at home. The two have high hopes for the playoffs and are going in with high expectations.

River Falls took down Rice Lake 3-1 and is pushing the pace in the Big Rivers Conference as the postseason draws near.

Girls Golf

Ellsworth, River Falls and Prescott each missed out on State qualification as a team after placing fourth, fourth and fifth, respectively, at Sectionals. Layla Salay of Prescott and Lexi Marks of Ellsworth did show out individually, going on to qualify for State.

Cross Country

Cross country postseason races have arrived. The Middle Border Conference Championship is Oct. 16, the Big Rivers Conference Championship is Oct. 18 and the Dunn-St. Croix Conference Championship is Oct. 16. Sectionals take place the following week.

Girls Tennis

River Falls and Ellsworth both saw their seasons come to a close at Sectionals. The two teams had some great performances throughout the year and have high expectations moving forward.

Boys Soccer

River Falls had a massive week in conference play, beating Menomonie 2-1 and Eau Claire North 3-0. With the regular season winding down, the Wildcats are starting to click in the final weeks.

Girls Swim and Dive

River Falls took down Eau Claire North 92-88 in a meet to remember. Twelve Wildcats set personal records on the day.
