Football
A 3-1 Spring Valley team will face a 2-2 Elmwood/Plum City team Friday in Spring Valley. The Cardinals are coming off a win thanks to two rushing touchdowns from quarterback Mason Winger and 179 yards and a touchdown from running back Asher Turner to beat Ladysmith 34-6. EPC showed some life against a strong McDonell Central team; however, the Macks’ passing attack that amassed over 200 yards brought them to a 30-16 win.

The Wildcats got back to 2-2 with a second win in a row, taking a long road trip and bringing home a 20-16 win in Superior. Sophomore Maxim Wahlquist dropped back to throw when trailing 16-13 late in the game, ultimately scrambling and picking up a massive first down with his legs on a dire fourth down and six. Wahlquist made an excellent juke move to put a defender face-down on the turf. Junior Trevor Bartlett finished the job with less than two minutes to play to cap off a 200-yard night in style. Superior got the ball all the way to first and goal, but the Wildcats made four consecutive stops, finished off with an excellent tackle by junior Bo Benedict.

Ellsworth and Prescott renewed the rivalry, and it was a classic Highway 10 defensive tug-of-war. The Cardinals won on their home field 14-6 thanks to a 10-minute second half touchdown drive that gobbled up nearly a quarter of football. Quarterback Reese Stanton had two passing attempts all game and made them count, both going for touchdowns. Prescott is now 1-3 on the year, and Ellsworth fell to 0-4.

Volleyball

Spring Valley won five out of six over a pair of quads to improve to 12-3. The Cardinals are steamrolling into conference play and are ready for a Sept. 15 matchup with Pierce County foe Ellsworth. River Falls has won six of seven, including conference 3-0 sweeps over Eau Claire North and Menomonie. The Wildcats are an impressive 15-2 thus far.

Prescott and EPC battled in Prescott, with the Cardinals winning 3-1. EPC closed out the week with a busy home tournament where the Wolves picked up wins over Luck and Lake Holcombe. Ellsworth was also at the EPC Invite, also picking up a win over Luck. Earlier in the week at an Elk Mound event, the Panthers took a win over Glenwood City.

Cross Country

Ellsworth and EPC competed in St. Croix Central on Saturday, where the Ellsworth girls took second and boys fourth. Mackenzie Hince took second for the Panther girls, and Adolfo Mendez and Carter Lampman took third and eighth for the boys. EPC did not have enough runners to place, but Tessa Asher and Kyra Duval finished 37th and 42nd.

In a massive field at the Faribault Invitational, the River Falls boys finished eighth of 17 and the girls 10th of 14. Despite the large pool of runners, sophomore Micaiah Black finished ninth of 122.

Prescott’s team celebrated Prescott Daze with a fun run on its home course over the weekend.

Girls Golf

Prescott met its match in Middle Border Conference play for the first time in 2026, as St. Croix Central snatched a win Sept. 8 in Amery by five strokes over the Cardinals. Ellsworth again finished in the top half of the conference in fourth place. Prescott senior Macy Reiter won the event with a 40, senior Lily Vesperman landed fourth with a 43, senior Layla Salay took sixth with a 46 and Ellsworth senior Emma Helgeson placed ninth with a 48.

The two squads returned to action Sept. 10 in Somerset, where Prescott finished back on top and Ellsworth remained in fourth. Helgeson tied for ninth this time around. For Prescott, Reiter won by a whopping four strokes with a 39, Layla Salay tied for second with a 43, freshman Claire Salay tied for fourth with a 44 and Vesperman shared 12th place with a 48.

River Falls also competed in two conference events, taking second Sept. 8 in Chippewa Falls and third Sept. 10 in Turtle Lake. The Wildcats are fighting for second place in the standings with Eau Claire Memorial, and they each took second once on the week to remain standings neighbors. Seniors Elsie Schmid and Rory Opatz took second and fifth Sept. 8 for the Wildcats, and sophomore Olivia Lick joined the two Sept. 8 by tying with Schmid for sixth with a 42. Opatz finished right behind the duo with a 43.

Girls Tennis

Ellsworth picked up a massive conference win over Unity/Luck 6-1. Some rain postponed a meeting with Baldwin-Woodville, which was rescheduled for Sept. 15. River Falls lost meetings with Hudson 7-0, Tomah in a 4-3 thriller and Sauk Prairie 7-0.

Boys Soccer

River Falls took a couple of losses, dropping a home conference bout 3-0 against Chippewa Falls and a road meeting in Marshfield 1-0. The Wildcats have drawn but are looking for the first outright win of the year.

Girls Swimming and Diving

River Falls lost 105-80 to Hastings, picking up a series of event wins along the way. Sophomore Kate Dolliver, senior Jenna Juetten, sophomore Hailey Perfect and Zoey Kohlhagen picked up multiple wins. The Wildcats are heading on a lengthy road stretch that features North/Tartan on Sept. 15, Hill-Murray on Sept. 22 and Hudson on Sept. 24 before the Sept. 26 Eau Claire North Invitational.
