Prescott’s 341 score at the Superior Regional was narrowly enough to get the team victory, beating the host team by four strokes. Seniors Macy Reiter, Layla Salay and Lily Vesperman each finished in the top 10. River Falls did not qualify, finishing sixth and needing to land in the top four. Senior Elsie Schmid and sophomore Olivia Lick performed well enough to qualify for Sectionals individually, joining Prescott at the Stevens Point Sectional.
Ellsworth needed to place in the top three at the Hammond Regional, and they did just that to advance to the Unity Sectional. Senior Emma Helgeson finished second, junior Aubrey Marks ninth and junior Marley Halverson 11th individually for the Panthers.
Prescott, Ellsworth and the River Falls individuals will each compete at Sectionals on Oct. 5.
Football
A fourth quarter touchdown and a couple of key stops improved EPC to 3-4 on the year with a win over Osseo-Fairchild. It was a win the Wolves needed in order to contend for a playoff spot, and they went out and got it. Spring Valley played spoiler to Glenwood City’s Homecoming 28-14. The win was massive for the Cardinals, because Glenwood City was 4-0 in conference, and the two squads are now tied for the lead with two conference games to play. Sam Schmitt and Asher Turner each rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
River Falls played Hudson tough but could not keep the jug in a 28-14 loss. River Falls is still 3-2 in conference, meaning they are right in the hunt for a playoff spot with two winnable conference games coming up.
Ellsworth fell to 0-7 after a 44-0 loss to MBC leader Baldwin-Woodville, and Prescott fell to 1-6 after a 35-6 loss to Somerset. The Cardinals were tied 6-6 at the half, but Somerset got into an unstoppable rhythm in the second half.
Volleyball
River Falls swept New Richmond 3-0 and will take on rival Hudson Oct. 8 for the top spot in the conference, and likely the outright conference title as the season is nearing a close. The Wildcats lost 2-1 to the Raiders during an early season tournament, but both teams have taken major steps forward as the year has gone on.
Spring Valley and EPC are both looking solid as they enter an Oct. 6 rivalry match. The Cardinals are 4-0 on top of the conference, and EPC is right behind at 3-1. Ellsworth won a five-set classic against Somerset 3-2 and was on the other end of a five-set match, losing 3-2 to Altoona.
Cross Country
Prescott’s Kyra Dix and Ellsworth’s Mackenzie Hince took first and second in a girls race at Altoona. Blakely Lucente and Evie Peterson also placed ninth and 10th for the Panthers. On the boys side, Ellsworth’s Adolfo Mendez took first, Carter Lampman fourth and Jacob Michels ninth. The Ellsworth boys won the race as a team.
Spring Valley and EPC were part of a massive Invitational in Osseo. River Falls competed in the Hudson Invite, which is divided up between grade levels. The Wildcats had a great meet, racking up top 10 finishers.
