Softball
Spring Valley is up to three wins in a row to climb to 6-3, beating Mondovi 10-2 and Chetek-Weyerhaeuser 9-0 and 8-1. The Cardinals are rolling on both sides of the ball early. After a slow start to the year, Elmwood/Plum City found the bats, building back up to a 5-7 record. This week, the Wolves beat Chetek-Weyerhaeuser 16-6, but lost 7-0 to Durand-Arkansaw and 13-1 to Colfax.
Prescott’s eight-game winning streak finally came to an end, losing 11-0 to Baldwin-Woodville after beating St. Croix Central 12-2 and 15-5. The Cardinals had seven consecutive games of double-digit scoring and are now 9-3 on the year. Ellsworth took on a couple of tough opponents, losing 7-4 to Grantsburg and 12-7 to Altoona. The Panthers are 2-8 this season.
River Falls had a 2-2 week to improve to 6-8, beating Rice Lake 7-1 and 12-0, but losing to Holmen 4-0 and 7-1.
Baseball
River Falls is 7-4 overall and second in the Big Rivers Conference at 4-1. The Wildcats had a busy week, beating Eau Claire Memorial 5-3 and 11-1, losing to DC Everest 7-6 and Mosinee 11-3.
Prescott is red-hot with a six-game win streak being snapped in a non-conference test to close the week. The Cardinals are 9-4 overall and second in conference at 6-2 (behind 7-1 Altoona). The squad beat St. Croix Central 12-1 and 6-3, ending the winning streak with an 8-7 loss to Fall Creek. Ellsworth is up to a 4-6 record after splitting with Amery with a 13-1 loss and 11-4 win, picking up a non-conference win over Cadott 8-0 to close out the week. Ellsworth and Prescott are set to square off this week.
Spring Valley is now 3-6 after a trio of conference games. The Cardinals beat Chetek-Weyerhaeuser 11-2, losing 12-0 to Mondovi and 11-1 to Boyceville. EPC had a solid week to improve to 3-7. The Wolves won 6-4 over Chetek-Weyerhaeuser and 12-2 over Prairie Farm/Clayton, losing 10-0 to Durand-Arkansaw.
Track and Field
Ellsworth and Prescott were at the Middle Border Conference versus Big Rivers Conference battle in Menomonie. The Ellsworth boys took sixth of nine and the Prescott boys seventh. On the girls’ side, Prescott took seventh and Ellsworth eighth. Ellsworth freshman Mackenzie Hince won the 3,200-meter race and Adolfo Mendez, Kyle VanWatermuelen, Ben Baker and Jacob Michels won the 4x800.
At the Rice Lake Invite, the River Falls boys took fifth of nine teams and the girls took seventh. The 4x200 relay of Jack Silloway, Jacob Hutchins, Charlie Burke and Ty Bauschelt stole the show with a win. Bauschelt also won the high jump.
EPC and Spring Valley were at the Boyceville Invitational. EPC junior Alison Sauve won yet another triple jump crown.
Boys Golf
Over a pair of home nine-hole Dunn-St. Croix meets, Spring Valley/Elmwood/Plum City finished fourth and fifth out of seven teams. Sophomore Ruger Peavey tied for a win in one of the two bouts with a 38.
River Falls took fourth of 19 teams with a 315 score in Holmen. The Wildcats finished behind only Waunakee, Onalaska and Madison West. Ryan Swanson won his fifth meet individually this season, and Jaxon Flanagan tied for ninth with a 77.
Ellsworth took sixth of six teams at the Battle at the Border with a 379, competing against some large schools. Hudson came away with the win. Prescott took 18th of 20 at the Spooner Invitational.
Boys Tennis
River Falls went 3-0 Friday, beating New Richmond 4-3, Osceola 5-2 and Superior 4-3. Ellsworth last took the court April 27, with the Panthers winning 6-1 over Middle Border Conference foe Amery.
