Mystery and thriller fans will have two opportunities to meet acclaimed authors this year as the Ellsworth Public Library and Prescott Public Library partner to bring bestselling writers Allen Eskens and Matt Goldman to Pierce County for free public events.

The first event features award-winning author Allen Eskens from 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, at the Prescott High School Performing Arts Center. Eskens will discuss his latest novel, “The Quiet Librarian,” which recently received the 2026 Minnesota Book Award for Fiction. Blending historical fiction, mystery, suspense, and themes of family, resilience and redemption, “The Quiet Librarian’ has earned praise from readers and critics alike.

A former criminal defense attorney, Eskens is known for crafting compelling stories rooted in his legal experience. During the event, attendees will hear about his writing process, listen to readings from his work, and have an opportunity to participate in a question-and-answer session. Independent bookseller Chapter2Books of Hudson will be on site with copies of ‘The Quiet Librarian,” “Saving Emma,” “The Guise of Another, and Eskens’ acclaimed debut novel, ‘The Life We Bury,” available for purchase and signing.

The second event welcomes New York Times bestselling author and Emmy Award-winning television writer Matt Goldman from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Ellsworth High School Cafetorium. Goldman is widely known for his work on television series including “Seinfeld,” “Ellen,” “The New Adventures of Old Christine” and “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency,” as well as his popular Nils Shapiro mystery series and bestselling standalone thrillers.

During the evening, Goldman will share insights into his writing career and discuss several upcoming releases, including “Liar’s Creek,” “The Prohibited” and “Cold Secrets,” the latest installment in the Nils Shapiro series. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions and meet the author following his presentation. Chapter2Books will offer books for purchase and signing.

Both events are free and open to the public, and no registration is required. Whether you're a longtime mystery reader or simply enjoy hearing authors discuss their craft, these special appearances offer a unique opportunity to connect with two of today's most celebrated storytellers.
