Cecil Bjork of River Falls resigned his seat on the Pierce County Board.
Pierce County Clerk Jamie Feuerhelm said Bjork submitted his resignation last week.
“Mr. Bjork officially resigned in writing July 13,” Feuerhelm said.
The county board will not determine how to fill the vacant seat and will appoint someone to temporarily fill the seat.
“Then they will need to decide to have a special election or allow the appointee to fill out the remainder of the term,” said Feuerhelm.
Bjork is also a former River Falls mayor, serving from 1998-2000.
Bjork represented District 5 in River Falls. The board will vote to accept his resignation Tuesday.
