“After serious discussions with the three medical specialists in my life and my entire family, I am submitting my resignation effective this date. It will seem strange after nearly 60 years of community service to stay home,” former District 5 representative Cecil Bjork wrote in his resignation letter dated July 10th to the Pierce County Clerk and Board. “I hope to devote my long days in writing my memoirs.”
At last Tuesday’s Pierce County Board meeting, they were tasked with confirming a District 5 Supervisor replacement for Bjork.
City of River Falls Mayor Dan Toland wrote a letter commending Jeff Bjork and recommending he fill the seat.
“I have known Jeff for over 30 years, and I was on the River Falls City Council with him during his time that he served on it,” Toland wrote. “Jeff was a very good Council member, he always came prepared, he always had the best intentions for the citizens of River Falls. Jeff spent a lot of time interacting with the citizens, trying to get their opinion on things and listen to their concerns. I think Jeff would be a great addition to the County Board.”
New District 5 Supervisor Jeff Bjork was sworn in before he was appointed to the Emergency Medical Services Board, Industrial Development Committee Information Services, Economic Development and Workforce Development with no opposition.
The Board heard the first reading of Resolution No. 20-10: Library Funding for 2021 and 2022.
At the August 3rd meeting of the Finance & Personnel Committee, action was taken to recommend the Board approve that the County’s contribution to library funding be raised from the State of Wisconsin minimum of 70% to 80%.
The Board heard the second reading of Resolution 20-07, which will authorize the sale of approximately 1.176 acres of land in the Town of Union. The parcel was previously utilized by the Highway Department as its Plum City Shop. The Highway Department has taken occupancy of its Range Line Shop, which combines the Plum City and Elmwood Shop.
