According to authorities, at approximately 10:17 a.m. on the morning of Sunday, May 31, Dakota County Dispatch received a report of a body floating in the Mississippi River just north of the confluence with the St. Croix River.
The Hastings Police Department assisted both the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) and Pierce County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) with the response. DCSO and PCSO water patrol responded to the scene for the recovery of the body. No details have been released at this time regarding the identity of the person, the cause of death or if there is any expectation of foul play involved. There is no known threat to the general public.
The body has been released to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine those factors, and for notification for next of kin. We will provide additional information as it becomes available.
