More needs to be done, but program heralded as ‘a good start’
With four projects being funded in a grant program, expanded broadband in Pierce County is being called a “good start” by Pierce County Economic Development Corp. Executive Director Joe Folsom.
The Public Service Commission Wisconsin announced Friday the next round of recipients for the Broadband Expansion Grant Program. Four Pierce County programs were among 58 projects totaling $28.4 million in an effort to expand highspeed broadband internet access to unserved and underserved locations in 44 counties.
With school districts running virtual classes in the last year, an exclamation point was put on the need for better broadband service in many areas, Pierce County being just one of them.
“The pandemic has amplified the need for this essential service. This year we all witnessed how important quality, high-speed and affordable internet service is,” said PSC
