Cardinal wrestlers working hard in early-season matches

After the first month or so of wrestling, Head Coach Jordan Poirer has been impressed with how his team started the year.

“The team has been wrestling very well over the first month of the season. We wrestled in the Ellsworth Invitational the first weekend of December. Joe Schulte was our lone champion. At the Eau Claire North tournament as a team we placed 13th out of 27 teams. Sam Murphy and Joe Schulte both placed 2nd in their respective weights. Right after Christmas we wrestled at Northern Badger. The tournament had 41 teams competing in it. We brought seven wrestlers to the tournament and had five placewinners. Joe Schulte placed third, Sam Murphy 5th, Shawn Thomason placed 7th, Ryan Pederson placed 9th and Isaiah Tulip placed 11th. As a team, we placed 18th overall,” Poirer said.

At the Northern Badger Classic, Poirer was very impressed with how Murphy wrestled.

“Sam Murphy really had a good month of December. He wrestled one of his best two tournaments at Eau Claire North and Northern Badger. He beat a couple of ranked wrestlers at the Badger and continues to be competitive in all of his matches.”

The Cardinals host Baldwin-Woodville at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 9th.
