From the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce

The Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce launched their new Ellsworth Bucks program to the community this week. The Chamber is celebrating with a Launch Party through Monday, July 13, 2020.

Ellsworth Bucks is a community currency program designed to keep local dollars local.

Our local small businesses were especially hard hit by COVID-19. As Walmart, Target, and Amazon are experiencing big sales increases, we wanted to find a way to support our members — the businesses in our local community — while encouraging Ellsworth consumers to focus their spending here whenever possible.

It's the small and locally-owned businesses who will keep our local economy alive. They create jobs, accounting for 64% of new job creation. Small businesses also donate 250% more than large businesses to community causes. With all they do for our community, it's important that we support them.

Ellsworth Bucks are redeemed like cash at participating chamber-member businesses. Currently, 24 local businesses are participating by accepting Ellsworth Bucks and the list is growing!

The main benefits of supporting the Ellsworth Bucks program is…

– It's a year-round Buy Local program to support our business community – It keeps local dollars local – It exposes our members to new customers Our hope is that the Ellsworth Bucks program catches on and instead of purchasing gift cards and check cards from the big box stores or national chains, the community will purchase Ellsworth Bucks to keep their dollars local and support local businesses.

Large employers spend 2-3% of their payroll on holiday gifts, sales incentives, and employee recognition. Our goal is to make ‘Ellsworth Bucks’ a reward that our local employers will use in place of national brand gift cards that have no benefit to our members or community.

A goal has been set to sell $5,000 in Ellsworth Bucks during the launch celebration. It's an influx of spending money that would greatly benefits our local business.

Also, part of the official Ellsworth Bucks Launch Party, Ellsworth Bucks purchasers will receive entries into a prize drawings. Entries will be received for every $25 in Ellsworth Bucks purchases. Prizes: 1st place – $100 Ellsworth Bucks, 2nd place – $75 in Ellsworth Bucks, 3rd place – $50 in Ellsworth Bucks!

In addition, the Ellsworth Chamber's executive director team will be hitting the streets for cash mob-style giveaways! $200 in Ellsworth Bucks will be given away at random to lucky folks on the streets off Ellsworth.
