City of Prescott approves licenses

At the beginning of last week’s City of Prescott Common Council meeting, the Council heard from a member of the community that would like to remodel his business.

'I'm Larry Johnson, I represent St. Croix Liquors in Prescott. I'm from Hastings and I currently have a Class A Liquor License and I have been applying for a Class B License for the last several years,' stated Johnson. 'That's where we're at again, I know there is one available. We want to start a restaraunt down at our location. We have 6,000 square feet, which is really too much square footage for a liquor store. I have got three teenagers that I would like to put to work, as well as other kids here in the community. I think it is a great location for that kind of endeavor, so that is where we are coming from.'

All of the cigarette licenses, amplifier permit applications, sidewalk cafe applications, and operator licenses were approved by the Council for 2020-2021 before the discussion moved to the open Class.

'The only other thing I want to remind you is we can issue the additional license at any time. We have had some conversations as I had told the License Committee with that Steamboat Inn property, which we are going to discuss in a closed session,' Jayne Brand, Prescott's City Administrator, stated to the Council.

All of the existing Class 'A' and 'B' liquor licenses were approved for 2020-2021, leaving one Class 'B' license open. The Council also approved a seller's permit for Shave Crave, a mobile snow-cone trailer. Although the Council was requested to move the 15-minute parking stall by Muddy Waters down one more stall to allow for more room, there were concerns about the safety of that idea. There were also concerns that downtown parking in Prescott is at a premium and there are not a lot of extra parking spaces to give away. The seller permit for selling snow cones on private property passed without a negative voice vote.
