City plans new courtesy dock

The Prescott City Council is working diligently to make sure the courtesy dock that was damaged in a storm is replaced.

“As part of the Riverfront Project and included in the estimates, the actual dock has been included in their grant request,” City Administrator Jayne Brand informed the Council.

Brand said that City of Prescott Public Works staff have been working with the city engineer on what the city would like to see in a dock. They have had some conversations with a gentleman that owns a company in the Hager City area, who worked with Lake City to replace their dock after it was damaged by a tornado.

Brand explained the design for the new dock would have spacers that allow it to move around with the changing levels of water.

“We also have been looking at doing a handicap accessible concrete. Well, this gentleman can do an entire package for quite a bit less than was proposed. In order for us to move forward, we have to put together the specs and the bid to move forward with this,” Brand stated.

Council member Bailey Ruona questioned if the city will need additional grant money to finance the new dock.

“No, we do not. Cedar Corporation had forgotten that they had put in the handicap access ramp at the cost of $225,000 and the stair system was at $40,000 and he can do the entire system for less than the $225,000. But we need to put together the entire bid package. We have to put out a bid in case there is someone willing to do it for less than he is,” said Brand.

The Council approved the motion to bid for the dock and scheduled a Parks & Public Property Committee meeting for Monday, July 27th at 5:00 p.m. The matter was also being discussed Tuesday night of this week at a Public Works Committee meeting.

Closed Session

The Council went into closed session per Wisconsin Statutes 19.85 (1) (e) deliberating or negotiating the purchasing of public property, the investing of public funds or conducting other specified public business, whenever competitive or bargaining reasons require a closed session – proposed redevelopment in TIF #4 & 19.85 (1)(c) Considering employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data of any public employee over which the governmental body has jurisdiction or exercises responsibility – Deputy Clerk/Treasurer completion of certificate, performance review passed unanimously via roll call vote.

After coming out of closed session, the Council passed a motion to increase the salary for Deputy Clerk/Treasurer to $65,000 starting with the next pay period passed without a negative voice vote.

The Council also passed a motion to send a letter to Riverboat Properties containing items discussed in closed session without a negative voice vote.
