Local musician Colleen Raye, along with Musical Director Jordan Hedlund and ensemble will perform

“The Music of Adele” featuring some of her greatest hits at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15 at The Ames Center in Burnsville, Minn.

Raye is ecstatic to be performing the show, after it had to be postponed one year ago when she contracted Covid. Tickets can be purchased online through ticketmaster.com or at the box office.

The first time Raye heard Adele sing on Saturday Night Live in 2008, she knew she was someone special. She immediately felt a kinship with the British singer, who although from another generation, spoke directly to her heart.

“She was so honest when she sang,” Raye said. “She was just kind of standing there singing, not trying, but it was so much from inside of her without effort. And I went ‘whoa.’ Everything was different and new about her. She just puts it out there when she’s talking. She’s absolutely natural and genuine.”

The show celebrates the artistry and timelessness of Adele and her music, featuring songs from all four Adele albums including “Someone Like You”, “Rolling In The Deep”, “Easy On Me”, “Set Fire To The Rain”, “When We Were Young”, “Rumour Has It”, and Bob Dylan’s “To Make You Feel My Love.” Raye will share the back story of some of the songs and connect the audience to the heart and soul of them with the energy and emotion Adele’s music brings.

“This is not an impersonation attempt but a top notch performance of the music, both vocally and instrumentally,” Raye said.

Hedlund has assembled a six-piece group of superior singers and musicians bringing authenticity to the music. Lighting & Visual Director Cory Spawn contributes with a beautiful multi-media and light production.

Raye is not trying to imitate Adele, though she’s hoping people who like Adele’s music will enjoy the show. She held a soft opening in Stillwater, Minn. one year ago, which went beyond her expectations.

“The audience, there were people there who just liked Adele,” she said. “One woman knew every word and every line to every Adele song. She just loved it. That’s who I’m aiming for, is people who love Adele. Her ballads are moving and powerful. That’s what Adele is. I did bring that essence and can still be myself.”

Raye is a well-known fixture in the Twin Cities Metro area. Originally a farm girl from Ellsworth, she has traveled the US and beyond performing on concert stages and has been on several TV and radio shows across the country. Colleen Raye Productions includes many shows, including “A Musical Tribute to Patsy Cline,” Sing Me A Country Song,” “Girl Singers of The Hit Parade,” ‘Sirens of The 60s”, and she has released over a dozen albums.

Tickets are $35 and group rates are available. To learn more, visit Ames-Center.com or colleenraye.com
