REP. WARREN PETRYK’S

REPRESENTING WI STATE ASSEMBLY DISTRICT 91

Celebrating Dairy Month

It is known worldwide that Wisconsin is “America’s Dairyland,” and we are extremely proud of this fact, especially in the 93rd Assembly District where we are very heavily farm-populated. With June being National Dairy Month, it is a time to celebrate our farmers and their ongoing commitment to their communities and the environment while also recognizing the importance our dairy industry has to our state’s economy. In fact, our dairy industry generates $45.6 billion each year for Wisconsin’s economy!

And this industry continues to demonstrate what it means to be a Wisconsinite, by helping our neighbors. Dairy farms throughout our area continuously give back to our community by donating cheese or milk to local food pantries to help those less fortunate. In saying so, I am excited to carry on the dairy industry’s traditions, which bring a smile to so many faces and remind us of the contributions that dairy farmers make to our communities and the rest of the world, through my work as your state representative.

For example, you can be proud of the bi-partisan work that the State Assembly has done to give back to farmers throughout the dairy industry. This session, I signed onto legislation to help increase the price of Wisconsin dairy exports, as well as legislation that ensures transparency and truth in the labeling of dairy, milk, and other products to protect consumers from falsely-labeled products. Additionally, I supported a budget that continued to invest in our farmer’s mental health.

To celebrate Dairy Month and our dairy industry, there are a variety of dairy breakfasts throughout the month where you can learn about local dairy farms and meet the dedicated families that keep them running while enjoying delicious, homecooked food made with fresh Wisconsin-made dairy products.

As a boy growing up in Dunn County, I always looked forward to the dairy breakfasts in our area, especially to eating the ice cream with the wooden spoon I had during the breakfast! While there, I was also able to learn what it meant to be a farmer. We took tours of the farms, learned about all the new equipment, and even had the chance to feed a calf through a bottle. In saying so, I cannot think of a better way to honor and commemorate the hard work and contributions of farmers throughout our communities than by attending a dairy breakfast.
