Ellsworth Public Library is pleased to announce the completion of a new accessibility improvement made possible through an American Library Association Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities grant, awarded in early 2024.

Following the grant award, the library hosted a community conversation in October 2024 to help determine the best use of the funds. Community members identified improved access to the library as a top priority, leading to the installation of automatic door openers at the library’s north (parking lot) entrance.

Installation began in June and was completed in late November. The new doors are designed to make entering and exiting the library easier and more welcoming for all patrons, including individuals with mobility challenges, caregivers with strollers, and anyone who may benefit from hands-free access.

Ellsworth Public Library is grateful for the community input that helped guide this project and for the support of the American Library Association in making the improvement possible.

“We hope this enhancement adds ease and convenience for everyone visiting the library,” Director Tiffany Meyer shared.

The library welcomes the public to stop by and experience the improved access.
