County Road CC project begins this week

The multi-year project to replace base materials and pavement on County Road CC from State Highway 29 to US Highway 10 will begin the week of July 31, according to Pierce County Highway Commissioner Chad Johnson.

The project involves milling off the existing asphalt, excavating the existing gravel and sand lift, then placing new breaker rock, base course and hot mix asphalt. County Road CC from County Road G to Highway 29 was last reconstructed with major grading in 1993, Johnson said.

The 2023 project limits will be from Highway 29 south to 730th Street. Milling will start south of the Spring Valley schools; the area between Highway 29 and the north school driveway will remain in place until the rest of the project has been constructed to gravel. During this phase, all school access will be from the north. Access for residents within the project limits will be maintained from either the south or the north and will be coordinated with the on-site foreman.

“This project has been on our road plan since the development of the 2013 highway department budget,” said Johnson. “Each year we will be using our allocations from the Local Road Improvement Program to help fund the work.”

The cost per mile of this project is $625,000.

Primarily residents will notice steady dump truck traffic throughout the project along the County Road CC corridor, Johnson stated.

The road will be closed to through traffic, with a posted detour utilizing County Road G to County Road BB to Highway 29. The road will be reopened upon completion of paving and closed again next year at the start of the next phase of construction, proceeding south from 730th Street. This year’s work is scheduled to be completed in October.
