•Deputies were called to the scene of tractor vs. power line incident at 5:07 p.m. May 13 on 690th Avenue about half-mile east of 530th Street in the town of Martell. A 2012 John Deere 7200R, driven by Robert
William Fenske, 43, Ellsworth, was heading westbound on 690th Avenue when it struck a power line that hung across the roadway. The John Deere continued heading west and stopped in a nearby field to fix the damage done to the tractor. Deputies arrived and the power company was contacted to fix the power line damage. The tractor had minor damage and Fenske reported no injuries.
•Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at 8:13 p.m. May 14 at N1620 County Road VV, Hager City, in the town of Trenton. A 2007 Ford Focus, driven by Phillip Andrew
Hardy, 45, Red Wing, Minn., was backing up in a U-pattern when it struck a legally parked 2016 Harley Davidson, owned by Danny Jay
Hhren, Hager City, in the Cute Sugars parking lot. The Harley tipped over and was pushed back across the lot. Hardy notified Hhren of the incident and they exchanged information prior to police arrival. Hardy was delivering food to Cute Sugars. The Focus had no damage, while the Harley had functional damage.
•At 3:43 a.m. May 15, police were notified that a car was in the back channel of the Mississippi River at the 825th Street Trenton Island boat landing in the town of Trenton. A 2008 Acura TL, driven by Shane Daniel
Saunders, 29, Red Wing, Minn., was heading northbound on 825th Street and pulled into the public Trenton Island boat landing parking lot. The Acura drove down the boat ramp on the northeast corner of the property and entered the water. It became submerged in 4 to 5 feet of water. Passersby on Highway 63 notified police of the submerged vehicle. When law enforcement arrived, the vehicle was not occupied and towed from the water. Police contacted Saunders, who said he did not recall what caused the crash or white time it happened. Saunders’ passenger, Spencer
Lee Charlton, 48, Cannon Falls, Minn., reported no injuries, while Saunders may have had possible injuries. Neither were transported to a hospital. Saunders was cited for failure to keep vehicle under control and failure of operator to notify police of accident.
•Police responded to a fatal two-vehicle crash at 11:41 a.m. May 21 on County Road F just south of County Road M in the town of Clifton between a 2016 Dodge Challenger, driven by Ryan Anna Murphy, 40, Afton, Minn., and a 2018 Mazda CX-5, driven by
Susan Marie Pierce, 61, River Falls. Witnesses reported Murphy traveling south on County Road F at a high rate of speed, pulling out into oncoming traffic. She crossed the center line and struck Pierce’s vehicle headon. Pierce then spun into the northbound ditch. Murphy’s vehicle spun and continued southbound. Murphy was thrown from the driver’s door opening and the Mazda came to rest facedown. Witnesses performed life-saving attempts, but Murphy died at the scene. The road was closed to traffic from 11:49 a.m. to 5:13 p.m. Pierce was taken to Regions Hospital by ground ambulance with undisclosed injuries. Alcohol and drug test results for Murphy are pending.
•Police responded to a two-boat trailer crash at 7:54 p.m. May 22 in the parking lot on 825th Street in the town of Trenton. A 2013 Ford F150, owned by James Henry Goodie, Somerset, was legally parked with an empty boat trailer in the boat launch lot. When an unidentified SUV with boat trailer, which was parked next to Goodie, attempted to back out of the parking stall, it struck Goodie’s truck, which sustained functional damage. The owner of the SUV was identified by license plate: Brandon Jerome Thom, 36, Ellsworth. A Woodbury man witnessed the incident.
•Police were called to a one-vehicle crash at 11:47 a.m. May 24 on 370th Avenue about one-third of a mile west of 450th Street in the town of Salem. A 2006 Yamaha YZF600, driven by unknown driver, had been traveling west on 370th Avenue, went over the hill and lost control. The motorcycle crashed on its side and slid down the hill before going into the ditch. The driver left the scene prior to police arrival. The motorcycle was reported stolen from the City of River Falls.
•Police were notified of a two-vehicle crash at 4:32 p.m. May 28 on County Road CC just south of Highway 29 in the town of Gilman between a 2007 Volvo S60, driven by
Samantha Marie Cunningham, 22, Spring Valley, and a 2014 Chevy Suburban, driven by Thomas Michael Birkel, 72, Elmwood. Birkel was stopped on County Road CC at the stop sign at Highway 29, waiting to turn right. Cunningham was stopped behind Birkel. When Birkel started to turn, he stopped again, yielding for a vehicle on 29. Cunningham thought Birkel was going, and rear-ended the Suburban while looking at traffic and pulling ahead. Both drivers wore seat belts and reported no injuries. The Volvo had disabling damage, while the Suburban had minor damage.
•Deputies were notified of a two-vehicle crash at 12:36 p.m. May 29 on Highway 63 just south of 850th Avenue in the town of Martell between a 2014 Ford Escape, driven by Lawrence Frederick Pruter, 88, Red Wing, Minn., and a 2017 Chevy Camaro, driven by Kim Peter Beise, 64, Red Wing, Minn. Pruter was traveling east on Highway 29 approaching Highway 63, while Beise was heading south on Highway 63 approaching the same intersection. Pruter had a stop sign, while Beise had the right of way. Pruter did not stop for the stop sign and struck the Camaro. Skid marks were located starting at the stop sign to the point of impact. Both drivers wore seat belts. EMS responded, but both drivers denied transport. Both vehicles had functional damage.
