Dorothy May Thompson, age 94, of Prescott, and formerly of Red Wing passed away on Dec. 16, 2024, at Prescott Nursing and Rehabilitation. Born on May 23, 1930, in Red Wing, Minn., Dorothy was raised in Red Wing, where she attended elementary and grade school. She later worked as a painter for Red Wing Pottery before meeting the love of her life, Raymond Thompson. The couple married on Dec. 5, 1945, at Vasa Lutheran Church in Red Wing, marking the beginning of a loving, devoted marriage.

Dorothy found great joy in her role as a wife and mother. She was known for her exceptional baking, creating delicious cookies, candies, and wedding cakes for many in the Greater Prescott area. As a homemaker on the farm, Dorothy poured her heart into caring for her family and animals. One of her favorite tasks was taking care of the calves, where her gentle nature was a soothing contrast to the tough work. Her love for all animals, from kittens to birds, was evident as she always kept her feeders full.

Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. A prayer warrior, Dorothy instilled in her children the love of God and the importance of morality. She loved her children above all else, often reminding them, “Mind yourself and be careful what you say.” A shepherd of sorts, Dorothy was always looking out for her children, and even in her time at the nursing home, she cared for others as well. She was a true ambassador of Christ, exemplifying love, grace, and selflessness in all that she did.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Susan (Don) Pearson, Richard (Jeanne) Thompson, and Bruce (Janda) Thompson; her grandchildren: Bryce Thompson, Madalyn (Matt) Anderson, Robert (Lisa) Douglas, and Kristen Douglas; and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Lois Wipperling and Marilyn Thompson; her brother-in-law Maurice (Donna) Thompson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Raymond, and her siblings: Helen Mueller, Walt Murphy, Pat Murphy, Earl Murphy, Lyle Murphy, and Mavis Murphy.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2024, at St. John’s UCC, N5496 County Rd QQ, Prescott, WI 54021, with a visitation one hour prior. A visitation will also be held from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 1339 Orrin Road, Prescott, WI 54021. Burial will take place at Pine Glen Cemetery in Prescott, WI.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the Prescott Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their loving care of Dorothy and the entire family. Special appreciation is also given to St. Croix Hospice, especially Renae, McKenna, and Chaplain Dan, for their dignified and tender care of Dorothy, and to the doctors, nurses, and staff at United Hospital, including Dr. Polcari and his assistant at Minnesota Urology, for their compassionate guidance.
