The identity of a woman who died in an August crash near Martell has been released by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
Pierce County deputies responded at 5:29 a.m. Aug. 16 to a vehicle vs. tree crash at highways 29 and 63 in the town of Martell. A 2013 Ford Escape, driven by Rosa Cristina Llivisupa Quitzuizaca, 24, St. Paul, was traveling westbound on Highway 29 approaching the stop sign at the Highway 63 intersection. She failed to stop or slow down, crossed Highway 63, entered the west ditch, traveled through a wooded area and struck a large tree. The vehicle bounced back and to the north, where it rolled onto the driver’s door. The vehicle then caught fire and was quickly engulfed in flames.
Quitzuizaca was pronounced dead at the scene. Patrol Lt. Andrew Thoms said her identity was confirmed last week.
“We used DNA records with the help of an outside jurisdiction. We will not have any drug/alcohol toxicology due to the level of injuries,” Thoms said.
Passenger Jhulissa Alexandra Sarango Minga, 30, Hudson, was transported by ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with suspected serious injuries. A Beldenville woman witnessed the crash. Alcohol was not a suspected factor, according to the crash report.
