Driver volunteers needed by Pierce County's ADRC

Posted

Residents of Pierce County with free time, looking to serve neighbors in their community, might consider delivering Meals on Wheels or driving people to medical appointments through the ADRC -- Pierce County's Aging & Disability Resource Center.

Some 100 Pierce County elderly and others unable to leave their homes receive hot meals up to five days each week through the Meals on Wheels program. The agency is looking to bolster its roster of drivers, typically scheduled just one day weekly between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Volunteers are also needed to drive people to medical appointments in Red Wing, River Falls, Hudson, Baldwin, the Twin Cities and Rochester areas. Mileage expense is reimbursed. You must have your own vehicle, car insurance, and driver’s license.

Neither job requires heavy lifting beyond perhaps 20 pounds. Meals on Wheels deliveries take approximately 60-90 minutes. Medical transports can be longer, and appointments are usually set up days in advance.

Anyone interested can call Lena Aumann, Pierce County ADRC Nutrition Coordinator at 715-273-6780, or email at lena.aumann@co.pierce.wi.us. Your help is vital to these programs.
