Edward Parkin 1933-2022

Edward Parkin, 88, of Hastings passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 23, 2022, at home. Edward was born a twin on Oct. 17, 1933, to Arthur and Florence (Campbell) Parkin in Pine Island, Minnesota, where he grew up on the family farm, and graduated from Pine Island High School. He entered into the U.S. Navy in 1953 and honorably served for four years. In 1954, Edward married Joyce Growt of Rochester and together they had two daughters.

Edward worked early in his life for Braniff Airlines and ultimately retired from American Airlines after more than 30 years and truly enjoyed his career working for the airlines. Later in life, he married Sharon Tukua during which time they enjoyed many travels and time spent with family. Ed had a real love for flying and spent much time traveling with his family to many destinations. He enjoyed dancing throughout his life, camping, and boating with family and friends. Edward has been an active member of St.

Phillip’s Lutheran Church in Hastings. Edward’s proudest accomplishment was his children and grandchildren; and he always enjoyed anyone who came to visit and time spent at family gatherings. He will be missed for his kind and giving heart, easygoing demeanor, and gentle spirit.

He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl (Ken) Holz of Hastings and Denise (Jerry) Holz of Cannon Falls; grandchildren, Jason Holz, Jenny Holz, Joshua (Nicole) Holz, and Benjamin (Jenny) Holz; great-grandchildren, Abby, Adam, William, Matthew, Reed, and Reese; siblings, Robert (Rusty) Parkin, Kenneth (Cheryl) Parkin; many nieces and nephews; and his neighbors in Marmik Circle. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Florence; 2nd spouse, Sharon; siblings, twin brother Edwin, Ronald, and Beverly.

Funeral Service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, with a visitation from 10-11:30 a.m. at St. Phillip’s Lutheran Church in Hastings. Burial will follow at a later date. Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings is assisting the family.
