Ellis Edmonds Poquette “Ellie,” 87, of Elmwood, Wis., passed away on Aug. 22, 2026, surrounded by his loving daughter Cara Malone and dear friend Amy Luther.

Ellis was born on Nov. 23, 1938, a son of the late William Dwight and Josephine (Edmonds) Poquette in Elmwood, Wis. Ellis was a lifelong resident of Elmwood.

Ellis was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 207 in Elmwood and proudly served in the United States Air Force. During his service, he learned the electrical trade, which became a lifelong passion and skill he carried throughout his life. Ellis spent his working years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he took great pride in his work and especially enjoyed working along the Mississippi River. He cherished his time on the river and the many experiences that came with it.

Ellis was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and taking on new projects. He was also a champion trap shooter and a dedicated Hunter Safety Instructor. Through his years as an instructor, Ellis shared his knowledge, experience, and love of the outdoors with many generations of young hunters, helping teach them the importance of firearm safety, responsibility, and respect for the outdoors.

Ellis is survived by his son, Curt Poquette, and daughter, Cara Malone; and his only grandchild, Gunner Blaine Malone, who followed in his grandfather’s footsteps by becoming an electrician.

Ellis is preceded in death by his parents William Dwight and Josephine Poquette, all his siblings William “Bill” Poquette, Suzie Radtke, Melanie Meacham, and Jeffery “Skip” Poquette.

Cara and her husband would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Our House of New Richmond, Wis.; Sycamore Memory Care of River Falls, Wis.; and The Plum City Care Center in Plum City, Wis., for the compassionate care and kindness they provided to Ellis. They would also like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of AdventHealth Durand Hospital in Durand, Wis., for the exceptional care and compassion given to Ellis during his final hours.
