After the Ellsworth boys have dropped five straight games, the Panthers eviscerated Amery Friday night in a 73-32 lopsided win.
Sophomore Jack Janke and Junior Mason Anderson evenly compiled a stat line of 44 points, 13 rebounds, eight steals and three assists. Senior Matthew Mehrkens had five points, three rebounds and a steal. Sophomore Alex Coulthard finished with six points, blocks and assist to go along with a steal. Senior Ivan Mendez had six points, a pair of rebounds and assists and led the team with six steals.
The previous Tuesday, the Panthers fell to Saint Croix Central in overtime at home, 7667.
In a big first half, Ellsworth jumped out to a 38-32 lead. But, the Panthers were held to only 25 points in the second half as their offense slowed down.
Anderson hit shot from outside the arc to send the game into extra time but the Panthers couldn’t rally and went on to lose after being outscored 13-4.
Anderson still had a monster of a game and finished with a 25-point, 16-rebound double-double. Janke contributed another 25 after both players combined to miss just one of 18 free throw attempts.
Mendez finished the night with seven points, four rebounds and four assists.
The Panthers have a lighter schedule this week with just one game, Thursday at home against Baldwin-Woodville.
